Faction Fight in Inverin

A Mysterious Shooting

Over twenty people were implicated …

‘A shooting outrage of a peculiar and mysterious nature occurred at Loughanbeg, Inverin, on Sunday, 20th inst., about 10 p.m., involving injuries to a man named John Folan, in whose right arm two gun-shot pellets lodged.  The affair is alleged to be the outcome of a faction fight, in which over twenty people were implicated.  Fortunately two of the local police force Constables, McHugh and Devaney, were in locality, and they lost no time in rushing to the direction whence the shots were fired, thus presenting the possibility of further harm being done to one another by the crowd in the darkness.  The affair will have a sequel at Spiddal Petty Sessions this month, at which several summonses will be heard arising out of the affray.  Constable McHugh has possession of the gun, which is alleged to be the property of a man named Waters.’
