February 1917: Arctic Weather in the West

The first week of February saw much of Galway shut down by heavy snows. Markets were cancelled, not post was delivered, and the rail traffic was effectively halted for most of the week. The low temperatures that prevailed that week prevented any real melting of the heavy snow which had fallen.
