A Bibliography of Published Sources on the Independence Struggle in Galway

Revolution in County Galway, 1918-23

Dr Conor McNamara, Historian-in-Residence, 2022

A significant number of books have been published that explore the period 1913–1923 in Galway. The following list of published sources is not exhaustive but includes key books for the study of the independence struggle in Galway that researchers may wish to consult. In addition to these sources, a number of important local journals have published an array of material on events in Galway during the revolutionary period. In this respect, JOTS, The Journal of the Old Tuam Society, and the Journal of the Galway Archaeological and Historical Society are particularly important sources. There is also an array of local and parish histories that contain valuable information and these can be consulted in the local studies section of the archives reading room of the Hardiman Library, NUI Galway, or in the local studies section of Galway County Library, Nun’s Island, Galway.
