“The Year of 1916” Art for Primary Schools – Galway County Libraries will organise a series of themed inter- primary schools art competitions. The series will span a five-year period, inviting schools from one of the county’s five Municipal Districts to participate in a specific year. In 2016 schools from the Municipal District of Loughrea will be invited to create imaginative and visual art pieces commemorating ‘the year of 1916’.

‘Light and Learning’ at Your Library: Galway Library Services’ existing extensive children’s programme of events, including World Book Day, Seachtain na Gaeilge, Summer activities, Summer Reading Buzz and Children’s Book Festival, with workshops and author visits will be customised to reflect the events of 1916.

“Children and Young People – Rights for a New Generation”: This project will build on the work undertaken by Comhairle na nÓg to examine the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). It aims to explore these rights in the context of the Proclamation and identify what actions need to be taken to ensure all children and young people have a chance to enjoy these rights in the future.
