Claregalway Museum: Claregalway Historical and Cultural Society will host an exhibition for the 1916 commemorations. It will run for the full year and through to 2023 at the Claregalway Museum, Rooaunmore. There will be an exhibition on Constable Patrick Whelan who was the first person killed outside Dublin at Carnmore Cross, and Captain Tom Ruane, a native of the parish who was a prominent figure from 1916 to 1922. There will be display of memorabilia from the locality, local newspaper clippings, pictures of the times as well as local stories of what happened in the area.

“The Rising through a Lens”: An East Galway Youth Theatre performance and discussions on the dramatic events that happened during the 1916 Rising. Members of the public will be invited to see vignettes of young people watching the Rising as it happens outside. The audience will witness the youths’ response to the events with the actors discussing what they understand about what is happening and what impact this will have on Ireland and on themselves. A personal story with the 1916 Rising as the backdrop.

Commemorative Plaque: Following Mass at the Cathedral of the Assumption, Tuam, there will be an unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the newly-refurbished 1916 monument in Tuam. During the unveiling ceremony, the Proclamation will be read aloud in Irish and English by local schoolchildren, as it was at the 50th anniversary commemorations in 1966.

Athenry Heritage Centre, St. Mary’s, The Square, Athenry, Co Galway
The Twelve Apostles of Athenry: The event will describe the events of 1916 Rising in Athenry with a special relevance to the men locally known as the ‘twelve apostles’.
These men were jailed for taking part in the Athenry Rising and the event will create a timeline for the audience to understanding the events at the time. The evening will also be a showcase for a local re-enactor to demonstrate the weaponry, clothes and rations for a Volunteer. The prison uniform of one of the twelve, Thomas Barrett, will also be on display. There will also be storyboard and other displays which will run until the end of June 2016.

Kilbeacanty Living History Reclaiming Our Heritage: Remembering 1916 and the aftermath: Unveiling a commemorative stone / plaque and weekend of events including talks by local historians Sister de Lourdes Fahy and Cormac Ó Comhraí among others dance and drama to commemorate the people of the parish who were involved in 1916 and its aftermath.

Ballinasloe – Reimagined: Experience the sights and sounds of Ballinasloe in 1915. See the daily life of the various social groups who lived and worked in the locality. Local actors will re-create the atmosphere and invite you to join them in living life 100 years ago. Search your attic or the local vintage shops to come up with your own outfit for the day. The day will feature camogie and football, puppets and a children’s corner with toys and games, street singers, musicians and dancers, a society wedding and a vintage display. Read the local newspapers, meet local celebrities like Dinny Delaney and national figures including Arthur Griffith, Douglas Hyde and Liam Mellows. Finish off the day with a rousing session of song, dance and music in Gullane’s Hotel.
Hundreds of the local men have gone to fight in Europe and another group are planning to fight at home. But life for most of the people of east Galway goes on as normal. This is a collaborative event bringing together a wide range of interests and organisations in the area.

Tyrone House – The 1916 link will be centered around Tyrone House. The event will celebrate and remember the 1916 period, with a themed pageant of older and younger members of the community coming together. A themed art competition in conjunction with the local primary school. Local music groups will host guest musicians to celebrate music of the time from local and surrounding areas.
