'The Blood Upon The Rose (Easter 1916)' a short film

Mercy College, Woodford’s Transition Year class of 2014.

This film is based on two inspirational sources: WB Yeats’ poem Easter 1916 and Jim McCann’s song Grace. The latter tells the emotional story of the wedding that took place between Grace Gifford and Joseph Plunkett in the hours before his execution. Interspersed throughout are quotes from Yeats’ poem, a contemporary piece which helped to turn the public mood in the country towards admiration for the rebels.

The school commissioned Kevin Glynn of Big Idea Films to help produce the film with the students themselves taking on key production and acting roles. The film has been screened at the national finals of the Fresh Film Festival 2015 and was also chosen to be screened at the Galway Film Fleadh 2015 (Junior Festival).
