Germans Starving

“We are Starving”

Death is better than such a life

German Mother’s Appeal

“We are starving.  Tell everybody outside Germany we are starving. If our soldiers can stand it any longer, we cannot.  We women of Germany cannot go on seeing our children suffering deprivation and hunger.  We cannot, and will not.  Death is better than such a life, tell them.  Ask them to have pity on us, for our own Government has none.  Tell them we are starving.”

This is the pathetic New Year message which a special correspondent whom I sent on a message of inquiry into Western Germany brought back tonight for publication in the London “Daily Express” wires the Amsterdam correspondent of that paper.
